Suze: July 3rd, 2022

00:00:37

KT: The day before July fourth.

00:00:39

Suze: Oh you're so good at that. And guess who's in the studio this morning?

00:00:45

KT: We have some guests. We have family. We have a family barbecue tomorrow. So the family is here to do the podcast.

00:00:53

Suze: Introduce your sister,

00:00:55

KT: This is my twin sister. (Lynn says: Hi Everybody) this is Lynn, she's older than me. She's three minutes older than I am. And Colo is here. (Colo says: Hey everybody)

00:01:06

Suze: Family is here and

00:01:09

Suze: we are, as you know, it's early in the morning, it's still dark outside and it is pitch black in this studio.

00:01:18

Suze: Does Lynn want to tell everybody what happened to us the other night?

00:01:22

KT: We had a lightning strike.

00:01:25

Suze: I asked Lynn.

00:01:25

Lynn: She was testing.

00:01:27

KT: Because we have the same voice.

00:01:29

Lynn: Does anyone know who's talking now?

 00:01:31

KT: Yea, do you know who's talking now?

00:01:32

Lynn: Do you know who's talking now?

00:01:36

Colo: I could tell the difference.

00:01:38

Lynn: All right, I'm going to tell real quick. I have a horrific fear of lightning.

00:01:44

Suze: Tell everyone why.

00:01:45

Lynn: Well I was a flight attendant in my early years and we had a problem with the plane with lightning. So

00:01:53

Suze: Meaning her plane got hit by lightning and she's been desperately

00:01:59

KT: ever since. She's

00:02:00

Suze: scared

00:02:01

KT: petrified.

00:02:02

Lynn: So I'm very respectful of mother nature's force and lightning. Very respectful.

00:02:08

Suze: Yes but all of you need to understand this. If we're in a car and it's even thundering or whatever, Lynn can't go out of the house. She can't and it's a true fear that she has.

00:02:19

Lynn: It’s a real fear.

00:02:21

KT: She's getting over it.

00:02:23

Lynn: I'm not getting over it.

00:02:26

Suze: Right. Don't talk over everybody, Miss Travis. There's four of us in this room.

00:02:31

KT: Let Colo tell them what happened.

00:02:36

Colo: Well I was downstairs watching TV and then it started to rain and then I heard a big loud noise and I said wow.

00:02:46

KT: Were you scared?

00:02:47

Colo: No I didn't get a chance to be scared, it was so quick.

00:02:50

Suze: Yeah but so what happened? They are the worst storytellers. Everybody what happened was

00:02:57

Suze: a serious bolt of lightning struck the house next to us

00:03:04

Suze: and when I say that there was a flash, Lynn explain it.

00:03:08

Lynn: It was a bright flash and we screamed because I've never I we knew that...

00:03:14

KT: Colo screamed the loudest.

00:03:15

Lynn: All three of us, the three girls we were all together looking out the window at the ocean looking at the rain coming down and it hit and

00:03:23

Lynn: I probably screamed

00:03:25

Lynn: really loud

00:03:27

Lynn: and Suze screamed next. And then Kathy screamed.

00:03:31

Suze: Right and I'm sure Colo screamed downstairs. What happened was the house next door to us, all their electricity was fried. Their appliances, everything. And Turtle who takes care of the house over there, that's his name.  00:03:47

Suze: What did he say to you Colo?

00:03:49

Colo: He said that um he was 50 ft away from it and then he thought he was going to die. He was in  shock.

00:03:58

Suze: Yeah it was something. All the lights

00:04:02

Suze: that our ceiling lights everywhere

00:04:05

Suze: are out. We fried our board as well. And the only thing that haven't

 00:04:10

KT: It's kind of been romantic though. Everybody, we have candlelight, and we have some of Suze's stage lights plugged in, and very good ambiance.

00:04:19

Suze: Right? Guess what's still working though?

00:04:22

Suze: The podcast!

00:04:26

Suze: Because I was like, oh my God,

00:04:28

Suze: how are we ever going to send a podcast? We must have fried that room as well. But this room was not fried.

00:04:36

Suze: So it is July Third.

00:04:39

Suze: And what are we doing tomorrow? A fishing tournament. And the winner of that tournament, and there's all kinds of different categories. Tell them, KT.

00:04:51

KT: It's the, it's called the family tournament and they do this every July Fourth weekend. It's a lot of fun and everyone enters, and the categories are the largest group or the largest Mahi, the largest

00:05:04

KT: snapper and the largest tuna. We're going after the tuna category.

00:05:09

Suze: And the winner, the main winner

00:05:12

Suze: wins what Lynn?

00:05:14

Lynn: One of my original paintings.

00:05:16

Suze: So all of you, you know a lot about me, you know a lot now about KT and a little bit about KT's twin sister.

00:05:25

KT: Who's a great artist, everybody, a brilliant artist.

00:05:29

Suze: But even more than being a brilliant artist,

00:05:33

Suze: she's a brilliant and compassionate

00:05:36

Suze: and fabulous teacher of art.

00:05:39

Suze: And I've watched her over all the years now that I've known her, transform people who have never painted before, never had a paint brush in their hand before, including me, right, make incredible pieces of art.

00:05:57

Suze: And discover a part of themselves that they never knew existed. And one of the great things about life is when you find something within you

00:06:07

Suze: that's a treasure and you never knew how to uncover it before. And Lynn has the ability

00:06:14

Suze: to uncover the treasure within.

00:06:16

Lynn: That's sweet. Thank you.

00:06:18

Suze: Oh, you have little tears in your eyes.

00:06:20

Lynn: I say something to people that have never painted before. And Suze, you just said it. I say that if you have a soul, we have the gift of creativity.

00:06:31

Lynn: And a teacher simply helps you unwrap the gift.

00:06:34

Suze: Yeah. And Lynn just got back a few days ago from Italy, where where she she gave a fabulous workshop and she does this twice a year everybody. Where people go,

00:06:51

Suze: and they meet her there, and they have this fabulous time.

00:06:54

Suze: And Lynn how do they even contact you if they wanted to do that?

00:06:57

Lynn: This is through IlChiostro which is based out of New York. Linda Mironti and Michael Mele are the directors and it's a wonderful, wonderful program.

00:07:10

Suze: So do they have a URL?

00:07:11

Lynn: Yes. IlChiostro.

00:07:14

Suze: Dot com.

00:07:15

Suze: So if any of you ever want to come, or spend time with KT's twin sister, you should take advantage of it. And

00:07:24

KT: you get lots of gelato.

00:07:29

Suze: So

00:07:31

Suze: tell everybody, because this is the day before Independence Day, what do you want to tell them? Colo what do you want to tell everybody? In Spanish, for all of our people who speak Spanish.  00:07:45

Colo: (Colo speaks Spanish and wishes everyone a Happy 4th of July).

00:07:48

Suze: You know, Colo, everybody thinks you're so cute.

00:07:51

KT: He's so handsome. And right now he has on

00:07:53

Suze: Very handsome.

00:07:54

KT: his fishing uniform. He looks really handsome.

00:07:57

Colo: We're getting ready for tomorrow's tournament.

00:08:01

Suze: And Lynn, what do you want to say to everybody?

00:08:04

Lynn: I want to say that for me. I love

00:08:08

Lynn: that. I have gratitude for my independence and

00:08:11

Lynn: I feel that it's

00:08:13

Lynn: such a gift that I'll never take for granted, especially after just traveling abroad, leaving our country and always feeling so good to come back home.

00:08:24

Suze: And KT?

00:08:26

KT: July 4th has always been extremely important for me because I did live

00:08:31

KT: away from America for 20 years of my life, and I've always looked forward to this holiday because it was a celebration, always reminded me of my roots, loved it.

00:08:43

Suze: And for me, I want to take this time

00:08:47

Suze: to exert another kind of independence right now.

00:08:51

Suze: And so we'll see how the three of you think about this, because

00:08:56

Suze: it's probably going to surprise them that I'm going to say what I'm about to say,

00:09:00

Suze: but

00:09:01

Suze: I didn't want to do a podcast today and talk about money.

00:09:05

Suze: Because really everybody,

00:09:07

Suze: nothing has changed much since last Sunday, and things aren't changing. They are how I've told you they're going to be, and I have to tell you, I really think that I'm going to be correct with it.

00:09:20

Suze: So I didn't want to do the day before

00:09:22

Suze: July 4th to give you a solely financial podcast.

00:09:27

Suze: But I wanted to take this time to tell you about something.

00:09:31

Suze: It was maybe a month or two ago

00:09:34

Suze: where I had told you that I had this fear of taking talks, because I didn't think I was ready to walk on stage and to address a few 1,000 people and all of you wrote and you said you can do it, Suze, you can do anything. And I said,

00:09:51

Suze: oh really? And I thought about it, and I thought about it, and then I came back on this podcast

00:09:58

Suze: and I said to all of you, I'm doing it. I've taken two talks. I'm gonna be in Las Vegas and I'm gonna do it.

00:10:08

Suze: And then you wrote me and you said, we're so proud of you. We knew you could do it. You can do anything Suze, you're Suze Orman.

00:10:15

Suze: And then a few days ago, actually, maybe it was a week or two ago,

00:10:20

Suze: I said to KT, KT, I want you to cancel the talks.

00:10:25

Suze: And she looked at me and she said, what?

00:10:28

Suze: And I said, KT,

00:10:30

Suze: I'm not ready. I'm not gonna be ready. I can tell. I know that I can't do it yet. That doesn't mean that one day I won't be able to. But right now I don't feel like I can.

00:10:44

Suze: And

00:10:45

Suze: I wanted to tell all of you that,

00:10:48

Suze: but I didn't want you to be disappointed in me. I wanted all of us to understand that another type of independence is knowing what you can and cannot do.

00:11:00

Suze: And if you can't do something, and you feel like you can't do it,

00:11:06

Suze: there's nothing wrong with that.

00:11:08

Suze: There's nothing wrong with you feeling the strength and the power within you to admit what's true for you. Because there is no vital, no more important state of independence than knowing what's true for you.

00:11:23

Suze: Not what others expect of you, not what you even wished could be true for you. But what is true for you.

00:11:31

Suze: So on this day before

00:11:34

Suze: July 4th,

00:11:36

Suze: my wish for all of us is that we always have the courage to stand in the truth of what's true for us.

00:11:44

Suze: To have enough independence of spirit and mind and ability

00:11:50

Suze: to just say what's true.

00:11:54

Suze: And

00:11:55

Suze: KT, how did you feel when I told you that?

00:11:59

KT: It's not how I felt. It's knowing that you felt free. You were free. You felt freedom and a great sense of relief.

00:12:09

KT: I'm not disappointed. I think that

00:12:12

KT: it's a shame we're not doing it. But you'll do another one.

00:12:15

Suze: Maybe I will. Maybe I won't.

00:12:18

Suze: But that's another state of independence

00:12:21

Suze: where I don't even strive to do that again one day.

00:12:25

Suze: I strive to live in the day

00:12:28

Suze: that I'm in. And then I have independence of the future

00:12:34

Suze: because I'm enjoying today and I'm so happy today and tomorrow I hope I'm happy. But I don't want to be happy and feel free because I can do something. More important than being able to do something everybody,

00:12:51

Suze: is how you feel about yourself.

00:12:53

Suze: How you feel about who you are, and what's true for you. And for me right now,

00:13:01

Suze: that's my truth. And you know KT in a few weeks

00:13:07

Suze: we're going to be going to British Columbia to go salmon fishing, which is a very hard trip to make.

00:13:15

Suze: And even though I'm scared,

00:13:18

Suze: I know I can do it.

00:13:21

Suze: Right? So it's also always okay to admit you're scared,

00:13:25

Suze: but know when you still can do something

00:13:28

Suze: versus just doing something, no matter what if maybe you really can't do it.

00:13:35

Suze: So I needed to tell all of you that because in my own way the same way I'm sitting here right now with my family, and these truthfully the people in this room right here and right now are the closest people to me in my life.

00:13:53

Suze: They are. I feel that way about you, all of you that listen to the podcast every week

00:14:01

Suze: that you write on the Women & Money app, how you feel about things. And that you're part of this.

00:14:08

Suze: And you too Robert.

00:14:10

Suze: You too because I know you're listening to this and you're part of this family as well.

00:14:17

Suze: So I just wanted my whole family,

00:14:20

Suze: especially all of you

00:14:23

Suze: to just know

00:14:24

Suze: the truth about me

00:14:27

Suze: and everything that really makes me, me.

00:14:31

Suze: Alright. So what else do we want to say?

00:14:35

Suze: What do you want to say? Colo. You have such a how do you feel when I say that Colo?

00:14:41

Colo: Um

00:14:43

Colo: I feel very happy that that we're part of your family. Very

00:14:47

Colo: honored.

00:14:48

Suze: Yeah. Colo. Do you know how honored we are for you to be part of our family? Do you have any idea how much we love you and how the people who listen to the Women & Money podcast and writing on the app, how much they love you as well?

00:15:08

Suze: Right. And

00:15:09

KT: He's gonna start crying Suze.

00:15:11

Suze: Alright so KT, come on, where are you? People are missing you now. Come on talk to them.

00:15:17

KT: No I'm here.

00:15:18

KT: I'm here and I'm very happy. I think this has been a really pleasant weekend so far. We've had some very stormy weather. I love that Lynn's here and Lynn's here without her husband. Her husband couldn't come. He had some surgical procedure, and Lynn's here with us. And

00:15:36

KT: it's nice just to be the girls, with Colo of course. But it's very nice. It's very relaxing, very relaxing weekend.

00:15:44

Suze: Alright everybody. So from all of our hearts,

00:15:49

Suze: we wish all of you a very safe, strong and secure July 4th everybody! We love you and see you on Thursday. Bye bye now.
