Personal Growth, Relationships, Retirement, Women And Money
January 23, 2025
If you are reading this I know you are someone who is motivated to make smart decisions that will build financial security.
But I also know that many women are missing a great opportunity to get help with that goal by talking about their goals and concerns, and by leaning on community to offer advice and encouragement.
The Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies says that only 17% of women workers frequently talk about retirement and 25% never talk about it. Men aren’t as silent. I was also frustrated to see that 30% of women surveyed said they don’t have much knowledge of key retirement planning strategies.
Ladies, I want you to reconsider keeping your financial life a walled-off area that you never share, or telling yourself it’s just too complicated to conquer.
It isn’t. And seeking out a supportive community is a great first step. Everything becomes easier when we realize we aren’t alone.
That’s how we learn. That’s how we gain strength. That’s how we shed fear, blame, and shame. And you and I both know we are so good about sharing and supporting in other aspects of our lives. We talk about our jobs, our partners, our kids, and what’s up in our communities and our country. We are excellent talkers and listeners. Except when it comes to money.
So here’s my wish for every woman who wants to take more control of her future. Open up about your finances.
And I have a great way to get started. My free podcast, Women & Money (and everyone smart enough to listen), is the community that can get you started. Twice a week I share my insights on what’s going on in the financial world, and we always are reviewing and learning about key money moves. My wife KT joins me to talk through listener questions—we call it Ask Suze and KT anything—and dish a little bit about what’s going on in our lives.
You can download the podcast from any of the major services (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and more) . Or you can access it on my website, suzeorman.com/podcast. For those of you who prefer to read, a transcript of every podcast is available on my website as well.
An even easier way to become part of my Women & Money community is to download the free Women & Money app (available on Apple and Google). You can listen to podcasts, submit a question to me (and KT!), and learn about special offers to save more.
I truly hope 2025 will be the year you find the power of community in building a strong financial future.
